One of my deepest fears is that our amazing officers of the law who every day are challenged with danger and issues when being peace officers, will be mistakenly judged when incidents like this emerge from the shadows to tarnish how people view them.

It took under three minutes for the judge to read aloud the jury's verdicts in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, poll the jurors, revoke Chauvin's bail and remand him into custody.

The Suffolk County Legislature will hold two public hearings this week on the draft police reform plans prepared for the county police department and sheriff's office.

The police reform and reinvention plan is the product of a months-long effort by a town advisory panel to assess police practices and polices and make recommendations for reforms.

The draft report by the Community Law Enforcement Review Committee presents 21 recommendations for improving police practices and police-community relations, developed over a series of more than a dozen meetings, with community input via two surveys and two listening sessions.

The town's police reform report, written by a panel created in response to an executive order of the governor last year, will posted on the town's website by March 2.
