After local preservation advocates pressed the Riverhead Town Board to try to delay PSEG-Long Island demolition plans for a historic building that once housed one of the island’s first electric power plants, the utility company has shelved its plans — at least temporarily.

PSEG Long Island and Stop & Shop are teaming up again this summer to collect food for Island Harvest Food Bank and will be collecting food donations at the Riverhead Stop & Shop on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the second consecutive day, a power outage is affecting Riverhead’s main commercial corridor.
