Colorful eggs will be hidden in field two at Stotsky Park waiting for the community's children to find them during the annual Rec Department's egg hunt.

A majority of the town board today agreed to plans put forward by the heads of the newly merged recreation and senior services departments, while Councilwoman Jodi Giglio advocated finding a new tenant to realize revenues.

The money saved by consolidating the skate park into about half its current space will be spread around to different projects, including resurfacing the Horton Avenue basketball court.

Riverhead’s parks are in such disrepair that portions of them are being shut down – but the town doesn’t have the money to fix them.

Riverhead Parks and Recreation Superintendent Ray Coyne says Stotzky Park and other facilities are in dire need of repair, but there's no money to do all that's needed.

The Stotzky Park ice rink is now open to the public for skating free of charge to town residents, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, "as long as the weather holds," Councilman George Gabrielsen said Sunday.

Stotzky Park will get a new playground in time for next spring, if the Riverhead Town Board approves a proposal put together by Councilman George Gabrielsen and parks and recreation superintendent Raymond Coyne.
