Mosquitoes collected earlier this month from Riverhead and Aquebogue tested positive for West Nile virus, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services said today.

The Riverhead Water District and Suffolk County Department of Health Services are investigating a groundwater pollution plume in and around the former Northrop Grumman site in Calverton to determine if it may impact a Riverhead Water District well.

More aerial larvicide applications planned for local marshes
The county’s vector control division plans to treat parts of the numerous marshes across the county Thursday and Friday to control mosquito larvae, the Department of Health announced Wednesday afternoon. Locations include marshes in Riverhead, Southold and Flanders.
