Tropical Storm Isaias

While the emergency pick-up of debris from Tropical Storm Isaias is taking longer than anticipated due to the volume of material to be collected, the operation continues and Highway Superintendent George Woodson hopes to have it wrapped up this week.

The State Department of Public Service has issued notices of apparent violation to PSEG-Long Island and four other utilities, including Altice USA (Optimum), for their response to Tropical Storm Isaias, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a press conference today.

PSEG will reimburse customers who experienced a power outage for at least 72 hours for spoiled food and medicine.

PSEG Long Island reported outages affecting 25,000 customers in its service area as of 9 p.m. Sunday and said it expected to have power restored to nearly all remaining customers by tonight.

Tropical Storm Isaias dominated the news this week, along with PSEG Long Island's struggle to repair and restore its system.

About 60,000 PSEG customers remain without power, PSEG Long Island said in a press release last night. According to the company's online outage map, 581 customers in Riverhead Town are still in the dark, with restoration for some not expected until late tomorrow night.

PSEG didn't meet its estimate of 85% restoration by Friday evening and now says 'nearly all' but a handful of customers will be restored by the end of the day Sunday.

PSEG-LI continues to work to repair damage inflicted by Tropical Storm Isaias Tuesday. The storm, whose strong winds and near-hurricane force gusts, toppled more than 3,000 large trees and limbs, did widespread damage to the system and left more than 420,000 PSEG-LI customers without power.
