Free ice will be available today and tomorrow at the county jail in Riverside for residents coping with storm impacts, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon announced this afternoon.

More than 271,000 Long Island homes and businesses are still without power this morning, according to PSEG-Long Island, which continues its work to restore power to the hundreds of thousands of customers knocked out by Tropical Storm Isaias Tuesday.

A major breakdown in PSEG-LI's communications system yesterday prevented customers from reporting outages by text and phone, and rendered the utility's website inaccessible, as Tropical Storm Isaias pummeled Long Island, knocking out power to close to half a million customers.
