Ernest E. Wilsberg, a life-long resident of Mattituck died on November 14, 2011. He was 90 years old.
He was born in Greenport on September 26, 1921 to Ernest and Olga Wilsberg and was a graduate of Mattituck High School and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point.
During World War II, he served with the Merchant Marines and on April 26, 1952, he married the former Barbara Haas. Ernie was an owner and executive of Mattituck Plumbing & Eckert Oil for forty-five years with his brother, Harold Wilsberg.
In the community, he was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church and chairman of the building of the church and parsonage. He was also a member of the Mattituck Lions Club and Mattituck Chamber of Commerce.
Ernie was also a devoted member of N.A.S.C.A.R, a car owner and loyal fan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children: Paul Wilsberg and James Wilsberg of Mattituck and Janet Engle of Florida; a brother, Harold Wilsberg of Mattituck; a sister, Doris Jenkins of North Carolina; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 16th from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 17th at 10:30 A.M. at the Advent Lutheran Church in Mattituck. Reverend George Summers officiating. Interment will be in New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck.
