NOTICE OF SCHOOL DISTRICT MEETING

(A) ELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS (B) BUDGET VOTE (C) BUDGET HEARING

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the election of the members of the Board of Education of this District and the vote upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures and authorizing the levy of taxes shall be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (Prevailing Time), at the following voting places: (1) Riley Avenue Elementary School, 374 Riley Avenue, Calverton, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 1; (2) Phillips Avenue Elementary School, 141 Phillips Avenue, Riverhead, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 2; (3) Riverhead High School, 700 Harrison Avenue, Riverhead, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 3; and (4) Aquebogue Elementary School, Main Road, Aquebogue, New York, for those persons residing in Election District No. 4, as hereinafter prescribed.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a Real Property Tax Exemption Report prepared in accordance with Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law will be annexed to any tentative/preliminary budget as well as the final adopted budget of which it will form a part, and shall be posted on the District bulletin board(s) maintained for public notices, as well as on the District’s website.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, pursuant to Education Law section 1716, there will be a budget hearing in lieu of the District’s annual meeting, for the purpose of discussion of the expenditure of funds and the budgeting thereof, which will be held in the auditorium of the Riverhead High School, 700 Harrison Avenue, Riverhead, New York, on May 8, 2012 at 7:00 o’clock P.M. (prevailing time).

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any taxpayer in the district during the fourteen days immediately preceding May 15, 2012, except Saturday, Sunday or holiday, between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. at the Principal’s Office of each schoolhouse in the District, and at the District Clerk’s Office, and at the place and time of the vote thereon.

Petitions nominating candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District by no later than five p.m. on April 16, 2012. The vacancies to be filled on the Board of Education are as follows:

For one vacancy commencing July 1, 2012 and expiring June 30, 2015, and one vacancy commencing May 16, 2012 and expiring June 30, 2015. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to the term of office commencing May 16, 2012 unless that candidate is an incumbent with an unexpired term. In such a case, the candidate with the next highest vote total shall be elected to the longer term.

Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the School District shall be signed by at least sixty-three (63) qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer and the name and residence of the candidate.

NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN, that pursuant to Section 352 of the Election Law, any person, otherwise qualified to vote, who is currently registered to vote in an election district for the County of Suffolk or part thereof whose boundaries lie within this school district, will be entitled to vote without further registration.

Unless a person is entitled to vote by virtue of such registration in an election district or part thereof whose boundaries lie within this School District, pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, personal registration of voters is required, and no person shall be entitled to vote at the meeting of the District whose name does not appear on the register of the District.

Registration of the qualified voters of the District shall take place at the Office of the District Clerk, 700 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead, New York, between the hours of 8:15 o’clock A.M. and 4:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time), Monday through Friday, up to and including May 1, 2012 (except April 6, 2012), at which time any person shall be entitled to have his/her name placed upon such register, provided that he/she is known or proven to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at said Special District Meeting for which such register is prepared.

The register so prepared shall also include all persons who shall have presented themselves personally for registration in accordance herewith, and all persons who shall have been previously registered hereunder for any annual or special meeting or election, and who shall have voted at any annual or special meeting or any election held or conducted at any time within four calendar years prior to the preparation of the register.

The register of the School District shall be filed in the Office of the District Clerk, located at 700 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead, New York, in said School District, and such register will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of said District between the hours of 8:15 o’clock a.m. and 4:00 o’clock p.m. (Prevailing Time) on each of the five days prior to and the date set for said District election, except on Saturday when it will be available for inspection by advance appointment only and except on Sunday.

NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the Board of Registration shall meet during the hours of voting on May 15, 2012 for the purpose of preparing a register for meetings or elections held subsequent to such election, and any person shall have his name placed on said register who presents himself personally to said Board and is qualified as a school district elector.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the Office of the District Clerk, located at 700 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead, New York, between the hours of 8:15 o’clock A.M. and 4:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) on any school day. If the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, the completed application must be received by the District Clerk no later than May 8, 2012. If the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter at the Office of the District Clerk, the completed application must be received by the District Clerk no later than Monday May 14, 2012. All absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) on May 15, 2012.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available at the Office of the District Clerk between the hours of 8:15 o’clock a.m. and 4 o’clock p.m., (Prevailing Time) on each of the five (5) days prior to the day set for the Special District Meeting, except Saturday and Sunday.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that descriptions of the boundaries of the election districts designated by the Board of Education by resolution duly adopted at a meeting on July 19, 2011, together with a map of the District, are on file and available for inspection by any qualified voter in the office of the District Clerk at 700 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead, New York during regular business hours, and that said election districts and the respective schools in each where voting herein provided shall take place are generally described as follows:

ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 1

Place of Voting Riley Avenue Elementary School, 374 Riley Avenue, Calverton, New York

Election District No. 1 comprises the areas of the District serviced by the Riley Avenue Elementary School.

ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 2

Place of Voting Phillips Avenue Elementary School, 141 Phillips Avenue, Riverhead, New York

Election District No. 2 comprises the areas of the District serviced by the Phillips Avenue Elementary School.

ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 3

Place of Voting Riverhead High School, 700 Harrison Avenue, Riverhead, New York

Election District No. 3 comprises the areas of the District serviced by the Roanoke Avenue Elementary School.

ELECTION DISTRICT NO. 4

Place of Voting Aquebogue Elementary School, Main Road, Aquebogue, New York

Election District No. 4 comprises the areas of the District serviced by the Aquebogue Elementary School.
