A 2006 Riverhead High School graduate was arrested Friday night after running onto the field during the Yankees-Mets game at Yankee Stadium carrying a Palestinian flag.
An NYPD public information office detective identified the man as Kelly Marcucci, 38, of Bay Shore. He was charged with misdemeanor trespass and interfering with a professional sporting event, in violation of New York City local law.
Video of the incident shows Marcucci, wearing a jersey with “No Kings” on the front, running onto the outfield during the Sept. 11 game before being tackled by stadium security and police in center field.
His appearance on the field was met with loud boos by fans at the Subway Series taking place on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. As he was tackled by security and police, and removed from he field, chants of “USA-USA” erupted in the stands. The Yankees went on to defeat the Mets 6-4.
Media reports about Marcucci’s Facebook posts prior to the game could not be confirmed because his profile was not available on Facebook Sunday.
Riverhead High School’s 2006 yearbook shows Marcucci as a member of its graduating class. His yearbook entry states that he played football, baseball and ran winter track for Riverhead.
