A reported smell of smoke caused the evacuation of a store at Tanger and drew Riverhead volunteer firefighters to the scene to investigate late Friday afternoon.
Riverhead Fire Department responded with several fire engines to reports of a strong smell of smoke at Claire’s in Tanger at just before 4 p.m this afternoon. Firefighters determined the reports were unfounded after checking the air conditioning unit and the roof, according to Riverhead 2nd Assistant Chief Kevin Brooks.
Claire’s, which evacuated about ten people during the investigation, has been reopened.
