Two Riverhead residents are facing weapons and drug charges following the execution of a search warrant by Riverhead Town Police and the East End Drug Task Force Thursday night.

Police, assisted by a Suffolk County Sheriff’s office K9 unit, found more than a half-ounce of cocaine, packaged in a manner to be sold, marijuana, and a pair of metal knuckles during the search of 46 Oakland Drive North at about 8:20 p.m., according to charges read in court by Riverhead Town Justice Richard Ehlers.

James S. Leggon, Jr., 39, and Victoria Reyes, 26, were arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court Friday morning on two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Leggon faces an additional charge of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon due to a prior felony conviction, according to police.

Three children, all under the age of five, were also present in the residence in “unsanitary conditions” when police executed the warrant, according to the charges.

Reyes, who said she is currently unemployed, asked the judge, “Why is my boyfriend being charged if I am confessing to [the allegations]?”

Leggon and Reyes were remanded to the Suffolk County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
