A head-on crash on Main Road in Jamesport early this morning injured three people. All three were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to Riverhead Police.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. in front of the Elbow Room. One of the vehicles involved in the crash rolled over and came to a rest on the sidewalk on the north side of the road, within an inch of the brick storefront of the restaurant Grana.

The rollover “wiped out everything on the sidewalk,” including two planters, two benches and a street sign, said Jamesport Fire Department Chief Duffy Griffiths. It’s a miracle it didn’t crash into the building, he said. The building was not damaged in the wreck.

2013 0901 mva 2Because the overturned vehicle was precariously close to the building, the Jamesport Fire Department rescue squad was called to winch the vehicle away from the building and set it upright, so it could be towed away.

Main Road in Jamesport was closed until about 7 a.m. while police and emergency workers cleared the scene.

Riverhead police are at the hospital with the driver of one of the vehicles, who may be facing charges in the incident.

Police were not yet able to provide any additional information about the persons injured in the accident or the nature of any pending charges.
