The Riverhead Central Faculty Association is hosting a carwash today in memory of Janice Mackey, a longtime teacher at Phillips Avenue Elementary School who passed away earlier this year.

The car wash is from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Roanoke Avenue Elementary School and is $5 dollars per car. The proceeds will be used to purchase new books for the Phillips Avenue Elementary School library.
Mackey was a lifelong educator, beginning her 30 year teaching career after earning her bachelor of arts degree from Long Island University in Southampton in 1970. Her career brought her to Florida before returning her to Long Island, where she taught at Riverhead Middle School. After earning a Master of Science in Education at C.W. Post, she taught the 4th grade at Phillips Avenue Elementary School for eight years. She retired in 2010, and passed away this January.
