A wind advisory is in effect for Suffolk County until 6 p.m. tonight, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statment issued early this morning.
Also, frost and freezing temperatures for portions of the tri-state area are expected late tonight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in New York. Temperatures are forecast to dip into the low- to mid-30s overnight tonight.
Expect northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph today, the weather service said.
Some tree limbs and branches might fall onto power lines, causing scattered power outages. Strong winds will make driving difficult on elevated roads and bridges. Tender vegetation may be damaged by the cold temperatures, the weather service said.
A gale warning is also in effect for the eastern L.I. Sound today, with seas of four to six feet.
The weather service has also issued a coastal flood advisory for expected minor coastal flooding this morning, with tidal departures around two feet around the time of high tide this morning.
