Two Riverhead police officers were promoted Tuesday afternoon by the Town Board. Officer Raymond LaPorte was promoted to detective third grade and Officer Timothy Murphy was promoted to sergeant.

Board members took the two resolutions out of order so the officers and their families could participate in a recognition ceremony. Each resolution passed in a unanimous vote, 5–0.

Police Chief Edward Frost administered the oath to each officer.
