Jamesport firefighters extinguished a vehicle fire outside a residence on Tuthills Lane last night.

When firefighters responded to the alarm at 6:25 p.m. they found a late-model Chevrolet sedan fully involved in flames in the driveway of the residence at 88 Tuthills Lane, according to a Jamesport Fire Department press release.

Firefighters also found the homeowner in the front yard with injuries sustained while slipping on ice while attempting to put out the blaze, the fire department said.

Riverhead Police on scene cleared snow from the hydrant and began treating the homeowner, while Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps was notified, responded to the scene, treated and transported the patient to Peconic Bay Medical Center, according to the press release.

Tuthills Lane was closed to traffic while Jamesport firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
