Vehicle fire

Riverhead firefighters successfully extinguished a gas tanker truck fire Sunday evening on East Main Street near Elton Street. The truck driver escaped with a minor injury, police said. The road will be closed "for an extended period."

Riverhead Police patrol units responding to the report of a vehicle fire at about 4:20 a.m. today found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames at the town park on Lewis Street.

Two people escaped injury when the car they were riding in on Northville Turnpike caught fire this morning. Riverhead Fire Department knocked down the flames in short order.

Firefighters responding to the call at about 10:20 a.m. found a fully involved pickup truck in an eastbound lane of the county highway, just west of Kroemer Avenue.

Riverhead firefighters knocked down a vehicle fire on Doctors Path this morning before it could do major structural damage to an adjacent residence.

A Baiting Hollow resident caught video of the smoldering remains of a burnt-out vehicle on the beach west of the wrecks on the Long Island Sound beach in Baiting Hollow early Tuesday morning. Neither the fire nor the burnt out-vehicle had been reported to police.

Police are seeking information about an early morning vehicle fire in the woods near Exit 73 of the L.I. Expressway early this morning.

The fire erupted in the engine compartment of a Buick Park Avenue parked outside the Evans K. Griffing County Center at about 2:15 p.m.

An unoccupied vehicle caught fire in the BJ's parking lot at around 9:38 a.m. Riverhead Fire Department dispatched an engine and quickly dosed the flames.

Firefighters found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames when they responded to a call for downed and arcing wires on West Main Street. Live wires landed under the car parked and set it ablaze.
