A Hampton Bays woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Riverhead King Kullen this afternoon.
Riverhead Police said Martha Garcia, 51, was found lying unconscious in the parking lot outside King Kullen when officers responded there at about 12:47 this afternoon, after receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
Garcia was found lying next to a 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, police said. She was treated at the scene and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was subsequently airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Police aviation due to the severity of her injuries, police said.
The operator of the Chevy Pickup, Emily Hill, 43, of Riverhead was uninjured.
An investigation conducted at the scene determined that Hill was operating her vehicle through the parking lot, when Garcia stepped out in front of her vehicle and was struck.
Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Riverhead Police detectives at 631-727-4500 Ext 332.
