Riverhead Highway Department Superintendent George “Gio” Woodson and three of his crew made a trip to the Riley Avenue Elementary School Friday to caution the students about playing by the road after a snowstorm when the highway crew is out cleaning off the roads.
In addition to this message about safety, these first-graders learned all about the vehicles used for snow removal. They learned the names and functions of each and were given a chance to ask questions about each truck. The students learned about the many uses of the pay loader, how the snowblower works and the force with which it can blow the snow off the road, and how the basic snowplow removes the snow from the roads.
