Aquebogue Elementary School kindergartener Braedyn MacLeod scored an honorable mention in Brookhaven Lab’s annual elementary school science fair this year.

More than 100 Suffolk County schools participate in the fair each year, with 500 K-6 students submitting projects in the competition.

Braedyn’s experiment compared the eating choices of three female gerbils.
She offered them seeds, cheese and lettuce. Sunflower seeds were the clear choice overall, but one of the three gerbils clearly enjoyed the cheese and lettuce more than the seeds; the other two almost always chose sunflower seeds.

The kindergartener did all her own writing and artwork and presented her project in a very clear and graphic way, her school said.

Congratulations Braedyn!
