A 61-year-old woman was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center after she struck a pole and flipped her vehicle on Sound Avenue in Wading River just before 10 this morning.

The woman told police she heard a loud bang just before losing control of her Hyundai sedan eastbound on Sound Avenue, east of Hulse Landing Road.

The impact of the crash snapped a utility pole and overturned her vehicle. The pole, a transformer and power lines came down on the side of the road.

The driver was transported to the hospital by Wading River Fire Department rescue.

The eastbound lane of Sound Avenue was shut down between Hulse Landing Road and Fresh Pond Avenue while the accident is cleared.
