After a day that saw downtown packed with trick-or-treaters throughout the afternoon, hundreds of people lined Main Street for a big Halloween parade featuring zombie dancers, spooky floats, monsters, witches, ghosts, a hearse with a skeleton behind the wheel and a Riverhead Fire Department engine driven by — yes — one of the few clowns to make an appearance for the holiday festivities.
The parade was the showcase event in the Riverhead Business Improvement District’s Halloween Festival yesterday. Downtown merchants doled out goodies to trick-or-treaters, local restaurants offered Halloween specials and hosted Halloween parties. There was a jack o’lantern contest with the lighted entries on display at East End Arts.
