Plans to rebuild the abandoned gas station on the southeast corner of Route 58 and Ostrander Avenue are moving forward. The Riverhead Planning Board has scheduled a public hearing on the site plan for the new facility on Sept. 7.
Site owner TSA Capital is increasing the size of its parcel by acquiring land from the adjacent church. Approvals for that acquisition are nearing completion, TSA Capital attorney Chris Kent told the planning board at its meeting Thursday.
The new gas station will be operated by BJ’s Wholesale Club, which has a retail warehouse on Route 58 east of the gas station site. BJ’s operates about 120 gas stations, George Goff, a company representative, told the board. BJ’s gas stations serve club members only, according to the company’s website.
The new station will consist of four fuel pumps, a 2,628-square-foot fueling, a 165-square-foot attendant kiosk and restroom, and an air station, according to a site plan presented to the board by Courtney Reilly of VHB Engineering.
Other hearings the board scheduled for Sept. 7 include:
- a proposed lot line modification between Foxwood Village and Mary Ellen Real Estate aimed at enlarging the Route 58 property of Riverhead Dodge.
- a proposed site plan application of Riverhead Motors to clear approximately 187,000 square feet of wooded land off Pulaski Street to create a parking and vehicle storage area for the company’s Ford-Lincoln and Buick-GMC dealerships on the site.
- a revised site plan application of Grapes and Greens/Riverhead Ciderhouse. See separate story.
The hearings will be held at Riverhead Town Hall during the regularly scheduled Sept. 7 planning board meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
In other action Thursday, the planning board:
- granted preliminary site plan approval to L.I. National Golf Course for the installation of approximately 22,000 square feet of ground-mounted solar panels and approximately 6,000 square feet of roof-mounted solar panels.
- approved a two-lot minor subdivision of a 15.9-acre lot owned by Little Flower Children’s Services on North Wading River Road.
- granted administrative site plan approval to Baiting Hollow Cottage Condominiums for the demolition of a single-story 473-square-foot cottage and the construction of a two-story, 1,223-square-foot residence at unit number 23.
The planning board’s next regular meeting is Thursday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. A public hearing on a seven-lot clustered residential subdivision of 18.3 acres located on Main Road in Laurel, approximately 320 feet west of Laurel Lane, is scheduled for that date.
