An adult and a 10-year-old child were rescued Sunday afternoon after becoming stranded on a disabled jet ski about a mile northeast of Iron Pier Beach in Jamesport, Riverhead Town Police said.

Police said they received a 911 call at about 4:50 p.m. April 12 reporting the pair was stuck on a jet ski that had broken down offshore. The Riverhead Police Department Dive/Rescue Team responded and launched a marine rescue vessel, and the department also deployed its M30T drone to help locate the stranded riders, according to police.

The Jamesport Fire Department and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded, police said.

Police said the Dive/Rescue Team located the pair, brought them aboard the rescue vessel and towed the jet ski back to shore. No injuries were reported.

Police said the operator of the jet ski was issued several summonses for safety equipment violations.
