First-grade students enrolled in Riverhead’s English as a New Language summer school program had a special treat when the illustrator of When the Lion… and other books visited their classroom.

Megan Dichtl spoke to the students about life as an illustrator and read When the Lion… to them during her visit to Philips Avenue School on July 12.

Dichtl, 26, of Wading River is a graduate of Shoreham-Wading River High School. She has illustrated a series of books written by Emmet Hawkins that teach young readers life lessons learned by friendly animals who star in the books.
