Downtown Riverhead was seething with ghouls and ghastly creatures of the night for the fourth annual Halloween Parade last night.
The parade is the centerpiece of downtown’s big Halloween Fest weekend put on by the Riverhead Business Improvement District, which this year featured a Coffin Races event, along with trick-or-treating, a masquerade ball, a jack o’lantern walk featuring more than 100 carved and illuminated pumpkins and more.
Hundreds of spectators, many of them costumed, lined Main Street for the big parade.
“It was the biggest turnout yet for this event and everyone had a great time,” Riverhead BID executive director Diane Tucci said.
Parade contest judges made the following awards:
1st place – Viking Ship – organized by Kevin Zaneski
2nd place – Peconic Ballet Theatre – Thriller Dance
3rd place – Bright and early Daycare – Preschool Minions
Spirt Award – BeetleJuice Embombers
