A man was arrested on drug charges yesterday outside the Green View Inn on West Main Street after an investigation by the East End Drug Task Force into narcotics sales at that location, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.
Police said Randy E. Smith, 33, no address provided, was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (possession in exces of a half-ounce).
Smith was the passenger in a vehicle operated by Johnee Miles, 24, no address provided, who attempted to flee police during the arrest, according to an East End Drug Task Force press release. She struck an unmarked police car at the scene. Miles was charged with criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child.
Smith was held for morning arraignment. Miles was processed and released, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
