Fear not, Spicy’s Bar-B-Que lovers: the popular eatery will reopen again soon, according to its owners.
Main Street’s iconic BBQ restaurant was seized by state tax authorities yesterday for outstanding tax warrants (see prior story), but Spicy’s owners posted on Facebook this morning to assure their fans that they need not worry about the restaurant’s future.
“We will not be permanently closing our restaurant! Spicy’s BBQ will be reopening shortly. Stay tuned for a grand reopening date! We will be back bigger and better,” the post read. It was signed “the Spicy’s Family.”
Landlord Dee Muma, who bought the property in 2012, said she spoke with owner Rick Stoner and he is confident he will be able to work out a payment plan with state tax authorities and reopen shortly.
A spokesperson for the N.Y. State Department of Taxation and Finance said the full warrant amount is $229,936. He confirmed the warrant was for unpaid sales taxes.
Muma said yesterday Stoner has always been a good tenant.
