Riverhead Elks Lodge 2044 celebrated Flag Day on Saturday, June 9.
Exalted Ruler Theresa Hubbard gave a presentation on the history of the American flag, accompanied by music coordinator Patricia Judd and presented with the assistance of the Elks Lodge officers, Diane Allen, Dick Herzog, John Hubbard, Denise Gotimer, Yvette Aguiar, Paul Carr and Richie Zbikowski and the members of the American Legion Post 273 and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Post 273.
The Elks presented awards to essay contest winners in grades one through five in Riverhead public schools. The essay topic: “What the American Flag Means to Me.”
Riverhead Town Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith, Deputy Supervisor Tim Hubbard and council members Jodi Giglio and Catherine Kent were on hand to present the winners with certificates from the town.
