The Riverhead Chamber of Commerce and local elected officials welcomed a new business to Route 58 Friday. Island Flooring Plus opened its doors last month at 1241 Old Country Road (just west of Harrison Avenue).

Owner Anthony Notarnicola of Babylon owned a flooring store in Smithtown for 20 years before moving to Riverhead.

“When this opened up, we saw it as a great opportunity,” said Notarnicola’s wife Penny.

Notarnicola has outfitted the interior of the 6,500-square-foot building with displays of ceramic, porcelain and glass tiles, mosaics and natural stone, including Long Island’s largest selection of wood-look tile, he said. The store boasts 70 full wall displays, which showcase the products as they appear after installation.

Island Flooring will soon have a kitchen division, he said, offering complete kitchen design and remodeling services.
