Temperatures in the single digits and low teens this morning will combine with with blustery northwest winds to produce wind chill readings as low as 14-below, according to the National Weather Service.
A wind advisory is now in effect and will remain in effect until 7 p.m., the weather service said. Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast.
Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Scattered power outages may be expected.
PSEG-LI was not reporting any major outages as of 5:30 a.m. Monday.
The utility warns residents to treat any downed wire they see as a live electric wire. Do not approach or drive over a downed wire and do not touch anything contacting the wire, PSEG-LI said. Report a downed wire by calling PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour electric emergency number: 1-800-490-0075.
