Third grade students from Phillips Avenue Elementary School launched their own space capsules crafted from household items..
The students learned about the legacy of Katherine Johnson and her work with Apollo 13 and then crafted their own capsules. They aimed to design a capsule that would be able to stay airborne.
The students launched their capsules in three timed trials and collected data and discussed how gravity, mass and wind affected their capsules’ performance.
