Three labor unions have announced upcoming apprentice recruitments.
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Operating Engineers, Local Union #30, will conduct a recruitment from Jan. 24 through Feb. 4, for 25 stationary engineer apprentices.
The Local 1010 Pavers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, will conduct a limited recruitment from Jan. 31 through Feb. 11 for 10 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices.
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the High Rise Concrete Carpenters of New York City will conduct a recruitment from Feb. 9 through Nov. 9 for 100 carpenter apprentices. Beginning Jan. 24, applications for stationary engineer apprentices can be obtained at Operating Engineers, Local Union #30, 16-16 Whitestone Expressway, Whitestone, NY between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be returned via U.S. Postal Service certified mail and postmarked no later than March 1.Stationary engineer apprentices
Candidates will be scheduled to take a comprehensive math exam and must score at least 85% out of 100% on the exam. The math exam will be given approximately six weeks after the application return cut-off date.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED) and must be legally able to work in the United States.
Applicants must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of a stationary engineer. This trade often includes work environments that are dangerous. The work itself may require a stationary engineer to be able to perform work under physically challenging and difficult conditions.

Applications must be obtained and submitted in person at the Local 1010 Pavers JATC, 17-20 Whitestone Expressway, 3rd floor, Whitestone NY, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. This is a limited-application recruitment. Only 100 applications will be distributed, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications will need to be returned, in person, to Local 1010 JAC at the above address by no later than 1 p.m. on Feb. 14.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be able to physically able to perform the work required of a Skilled Construction Craft Laborer and endure strenuous exertion and exposure to the elements.
Must be tested for the minimum physical condition at the time and place of personal submission of the completed application form by the applicant. Must appear for physical evaluation which consists of:
Wheeling a wheelbarrow loaded with 150 pounds to a flat distance of 300 feet.
Lifting a 90-pound cement bag and carrying to a distance of 100 feet.
Carrying framing wood for a distance of 100 feet.

Carpenter apprentices
Applications must be obtained in person at the New York City District Council of Carpenters (NYCDCC) Training Center, 395 Hudson Street (Clarkson Street entrance), New York, NY, on the second Wednesday of each month, during the recruitment period, which begins Feb. 9. Applications will be available from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. The Carpenter Training Center will give out as many applications as possible between this time period on the designated days. There will be no admittance after 7:30 a.m. Only the applicant will be allowed to obtain an application. To receive an application, applicants must provide government-issued picture identification.
Completed original applications must be submitted by mail to NYCDCC Training Center, 395 Hudson Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10014. All applications must be completed correctly and postmarked no later than five business days from the date that the application was provided. Failure to comply will disqualify the individual from further consideration.
Applicants that comply with the previous application steps will receive a confirmation letter and will remain on file until demand for apprentices is anticipated. Once apprentices are needed, selected applicants will be notified, by mail, to attend an initial orientation. Applicants that do not arrive on time to the initial four-hour orientation will be disqualified from further consideration. At the end of the orientation, applicants will be scheduled for an interview at a future date and will be provided with an instruction sheet and a list of original documents that will be required if they are accepted into the program. Applicants that do not arrive on time to their scheduled interview will be disqualified from further consideration.
Applicants: Must be at least 17 years old at the time of application.
Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade without posing a direct threat to the safety of themselves or others.
Must pass a substance abuse screening, at the expense of the sponsor, within 48 hours of selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship. Applicants that do not pass the substance abuse screening will be notified and disqualified from further consideration.
Must provide proof of any trade-related experience, certification, or education, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship. Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States. Proof will be required after selection and prior to enrollment to apprenticeship.
Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
