The Riverhead High School Blue Masques garnered 13 nominations and won the Judges’ Choice Award ahead of the 20th annual East End Arts Teeny Awards ceremony.
The Blue Masques performed two musicals this past school year, “A Bronx Tale: The Musical” in the fall and “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical” in the spring. “SpongeBob’s” cast and crew will be honored at the ceremony with the Judges’ Choice Award, which is awarded ”to an exemplary performance or performer” and is announced ahead of the ceremony.
The Teeny Awards started in 2002 to celebrate “excellence in high school theater across the East End of Long Island” modeled after Broadway’s Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards. Twenty schools on the East End and Brookhaven participate in the ceremony. Performances are judged by a volunteer group of anonymous judges who attend all the high school productions and decide the nominees and winners.
The Teeny Awards will be held this year at Riverhead High School on Sunday, June 5 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased through the East End Arts website.
