(Updated Oct. 9) The Southampton Town Police Department tonight announced the death of Police Chief Steven Skrynecki.
Skrynecki, 69, joined the Southampton Town Police Department after a 42-year career with the Nassau County Police Department, retiring as chief of the department.
He served as chief of the Southampton Town Police Department for six years.
“The loss of such an honorable and respected officer will be felt across law enforcement from New York City to the East End of Long Island,” Southampton Town Police said in a statement. “He dedicated himself to the profession while imparting his vast experience and knowledge to the people who worked alongside him. Chief Skrynecki strived to make his communities a safer place for residents and visitors alike,” the department said.
“Chief Skrynecki was one of the finest individuals I have ever known,” Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said. “He led a distinguished career in law enforcement which included serving as our police chief for six years. Chief Skrynecki always made public safety his highest priority. Southampton Town is forever grateful for his service and offer our sincerest condolences to his family…Please keep the Skrynecki family in your prayers.”
Southampton Town Police on Saturday announced arrangements for Skrynecki.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, 125 W. Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, 37 Union Avenue, Amityville, NY 11701.
Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
