Riverhead Town Police report charging two Riverhead men in a tobacco/vape compliance check at 13 retail vendors in Riverhead yesterday.

Police worked with Riverhead Community Awareness Program to conduct the compliance check, targeting the sale of tobacco and vape products to persons under the age of 21.

Nikul Patel, 22, an employee of the Polish Town Deli, 432 Pulaski Street, Riverhead and Sanket Patel, 25, an employee of One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead, were arrested and each charged with one count of Penal Law 260.21(3) Unlawful Dealing with a Child in the Second Degree, a Class B Misdemeanor, police said in a press release. Both were processed and released on desk appearance tickets with future court dates, according to police.

Police said the following vendors were found to be in compliance:

  • Mobil, 1575 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Citgo, 1050 Osborn Avenue, Riverhead
  • BP, 1356 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Gotham Smoke, 1085 Old County Road, Riverhead
  • 7-Eleven, 1050 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Speedway, 870 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Empire Gas, 640 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • 7-Eleven, 162 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Bapa Card & Gift, 769 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Shell Gas, 626 W. Main St., Riverhead
  • Riverhead Stationery, 407 E. Main St., Riverhead
