The Butterfly Effect Project’s Butterfly Action Group has organized “A Celebration of Black Excellence” event to celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 28 at First Baptist Church of Riverhead.

BAG, which is a youth-led action group, amplifies the youth voice and educates BEP and the larger community about racial and social justice issues. The BEP participants bring to light the injustices they face, research and contextualize them, and understand how to best take action to change them.

BAG’s Celebration of Black Excellence will feature a variety of soul food and explanations of the dishes’ origins, a trivia game about Black heroes past and present, and performances from BEP’s dance teams, as well as the historical and cultural significance of the dance styles. BAG aims to both educate and celebrate the depth and richness of Black culture through this event.

The event will take place Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, which is located at 1018 Northville Turnpike in Riverhead.
