Two women were arrested Monday on grand larceny charges in connection with the alleged theft of sunglasses valued at more than $1,000 from a Tanger Outlets store in Riverhead, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release late Monday night.
Police said management of the Sunglass Hut Store at Tanger Outlets contacted the police department to report that two women removed sunglasses valued at $1,025 from the store without paying for them.
Responding patrol officers were able to locate the women within the outlet complex and placed them under arrest.
The suspects were identified as Lakeisha Mason, 33, of Brooklyn, Kendra Patrick, 44, of Middletown, New York. Both were processed on charges of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree at Riverhead Police Department headquarters.
Patrick was later released on an appearance ticket with a future court date.
Police investigating the incident learned that Mason was wanted by authorities in New Jersey on prior fraud charges. In addition to the grand larceny charge, Mason was charged as being a fugitive from justice, and was held for arraignment purposes and extradition proceedings.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
