The Riverhead Police Department is investigating a break-in at a vacant – West Main Street home currently undergoing extensive renovations.

A construction employee reported finding a broken rear basement window Saturday morning and the front door unlocked when he returned to the work site at 619 West Main Street, police said. The employee left the site Friday at 5:30 p.m. 

The Riverhead Police Department Detective Division is investigating. It appears that an unknown person(s) entered through the broken rear basement window and then exited the residence through the open front door, police said. It is unknown what, if anything, was removed from the location, police said in a press release Saturday night.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department Detective Division at (631) 727-4500.
