The Riverhead Blue Masques will present their spring musical, “Newsies,” this weekend on the Riverhead High School stage.

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m., at the Charles Cardona Auditorium at Riverhead High School. Tickets can be purchased online for $15 (reserve seating) and $10 (general admission), and at the door for $15 (general admission) and $5 for Riverhead students with a student ID. Online tickets can be purchased at this link.

“Newsies” is loosely based on the New York City newsboys’ strike of 1899, when young newspaper vendors demonstrated for two weeks to change the way the city’s two largest papers — the New York World and the New York Journal — compensated their force of newsboys.

The musical is a stage adaption of the 1992 musical historical drama film of the same name produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The music was written by legendary Disney musical composer Alan Menken and lyrics were written by Jack Feldman.
