A new “family-oriented” restaurant is now open across from the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead.

Myles on Main, downtown Riverhead’s newest eatery, opened on June 29 in the Preston House & Hotel on East Main Street. The restaurant is within the restored historic home, which was built in 1905 by local Civil War hero Henry Preston, Suffolk County’s first full-time sheriff. In 2018, the house was renovated and improved with a 20-room boutique hotel by Hyatt Place and aquarium developer Joseph Petrocelli.

The restaurant is named after the first grandchild of Richard Coleman, the owner of American Resort Management, the Texas-based hospitality company that runs the restaurant.

The restaurant caters to families and couples, Myles on Main general manager Alberto Longhi said. “Our menu has multiple items for any type of guests, from a family, to a couple that just wants to come over and have a date night without breaking the bank,” he said.

Myles on Main replaces the Preston Restaurant, a more expensive fine dining establishment closed in October.

“The previous one was higher end, select items…the steaks were higher [price], like $70, $80,” Longhi said. “Now, because we want to be family-friendly, casual, we have to keep a good quality of food and a very good price market so that everyone can afford to come out.”

The restaurant’s menu is a mix of sandwiches, burgers and other entrees that include meatloaf, lasagna, and steak and chicken dishes.

“We want to be family oriented, but we also wanted to have the parents come in, bring the kids and they would have something else other than burgers and fries to eat for themselves,” the restaurant’s chef, Hector Oviedo, said.

“It’s a well-balanced menu — it’s very eclectic,” Oviedo said. “And it’s a menu that really has a little bit of everything for everyone.”

Delanie Warner and Ayne Warner said they became immediate fans of Myles on Main, and have dined there three times since it opened. RiverheadLOCAL/Alek Lewis

Oviedo said the community has taken to the menu since the restaurant opened almost three weeks ago. A local favorite has been one of their appetizers: a giant meatball in marinara sauce.

Longhi said his favorite dish is an appetizer: the steak carpaccio. The dish is a raw sirloin served with mixed greens, capers, shaved parmesan, topped with a truffle infused dressing. “With a nice glass of red wine, it’s the best,” he said.

Ayne and Delanie Warner of Riverhead were finishing up a late lunch at Myles on Main Thursday. Ayne said everything was “fabulous” and that she had dined at Mles thrice in the last 10 days.

“It’s very comfortable in here,” Ayne said. “The staff is fabulous. The manager is lovely. We love it.”
