A wind advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.

West winds becoming northwest this afternoon of 20 to 25 mph  with gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service forecast for southeast New York, portions of southern Connecticut and northeast New Jersey.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, the weather service said in the advisory. Treeblimbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, the weather service said.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution,” the advisory said. “Secure outdoor objects.”
