Riverhead Police responding to a 911 call about a robbery in progress located and arrested the suspect a short time later, police said in a press release Friday night.

Police said a 911 caller at about 11 p.m. Thursday reported a robbery in progress near 1264 West Main Street in Riverhead.

The victim told responding officers a person known to him as Roy Jones, a 37-year-old male who resides in the Riverhead area, punched him in the face and then removed his iEnyrid electric scooter, according to the police press release.

A short time later, a patrol officer located Jones, police said. After an investigation by Riverhead detectives, Jones was placed under arrest on a charge of Robbery in the Third Degree and held for arraignment, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
