Riverhead police are investigating the burglary of a residence on North Country Road Sunday afternoon.

Police said the homeowner returned Sunday afternoon to find two males exiting a rear door of the home and running away on foot in a northbound direction.

The resident contacted Riverhead police at approximately 2:38 p.m. and police dispatched several units to the area, including a K9 and a drone operator, according to a police press release. An extensive search of the area had negative results, police said.

The Riverhead Detective Division was notified and responded. An investigation conducted at the scene revealed that the subjects had accessed several areas of the residence and had removed assorted jewelry and other items from within, police said.

The suspects are described as being Hispanic or light-skinned Black males, young in age, having a thin build and wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and dark-colored pants.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and anyone having information regarding this matter is asked to contact the Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500.
