Two people were arrested for unlawful sale of alcoholic beverages to minors during a compliance check of 21 retail establishments in Riverhead Town Tuesday.

Police said Atilla Cayan, 21, of Rocky Point, an employee of the Mobil gas station at 415 East Main Street in Riverhead and Diego Jose Mayen Ruiz, 19, of Calverton, an employee of the 7-Eleven convenience store at 245 West Main Street in Riverhead, were both arrested on charges of Unlawful Dealing with a Child in the First Degree, a class A misdemeanor. Both were processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department COPE Division, in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), conducted the compliance check Tuesday, targeting the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21, police said in a press release.
