Riverhead Town Police reported 155 criminal offenses and arrested 90 people on 98 criminal charges in August, according to a monthly crime report released this week.

The criminal offense data reported by the Riverhead Police Department complies with the National Incident-Based Reporting System (IBRS) implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and in use by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The department completed its transition to reporting in compliance with IBRS in July 2024.

Criminal incidents decreased compared to the 208 incidents reported in August 2024. Criminal charges also decreased compared to the 117 charges reported in August 2024.

Riverhead Police arrested 88 adults (61 males, 27 females) and two juveniles (one male, one female) on the above-listed charges, according to the report.

Out of the individuals arrested, 59 were held for arraignment.

Riverhead Police reported 94 domestic incidents in August.

The town issued 981 summonses in August: 46 for town code violations, 596 traffic tickets and 337 parking tickets.

There were 2,538 non-criminal incidents reported by Riverhead Police in August. There were no overdoses, according to the report.

Police reported 182 motor vehicle accidents in Riverhead Town in August; 29 were classified as minor. Eight accidents involved a deer.
