A pedestrian was seriously injured Wednesday night when he was struck by a pickup truck on County Road 58 near BJ’s Gas Station, Riverhead police said.
Police said they received reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at about 10:03 p.m. on County Road 58, east of Ostrander Avenue. Responding officers found a man lying in the roadway with an apparent head wound, according to police.
Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance took the man to Stony Brook University Hospital. His injuries were serious and life-threatening, police said.
An investigation at the scene found the man had been attempting to cross Route 58 on foot from south to north when he was struck in the westbound lane by a 2021 Ford Ranger driven by James D’Aguanno, 70, of Seaford, police said.
D’Aguanno remained at the scene. No charges have been filed, police said.
