A person reported missing after going paddleboarding off South Jamesport Beach on Wednesday afternoon was located “in good health” after a multi-agency search, Riverhead police said.
Riverhead Police said they received a 911 call at about 3:56 p.m. Aug. 26 reporting that a paddleboarder had gone out from South Jamesport Beach and did not return. The Riverhead Police Department Dive/Rescue Team responded and multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Suffolk County Police Aviation, the New York State Police Marine Unit, and police departments from Southampton, Southold and Riverhead, along with several local fire departments and the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Company, according to a police media release.
The person was ultimately found by a Southampton Town police officer walking in the water near the beach off Peconic Bay Boulevard near Wendy Drive, police said.
Police did not provide any additional information about the incident.
Riverhead Police ask anyone with information about suspicious or criminal activity to call the department’s Crime Hotline at 631-727-3333. Calls will be kept confidential, police said.
