Bond vote

Riverhead Fire District voters Tuesday authorized $4.5 million in bonds to fund the purchase of a new ladder truck and new communications equipment.

"Back to the drawing board:" Both school bond propositions failed by wide margins — with 69% and 73% casting "no" votes.

Two propositions are on the ballot. One would authorize $87.7 million in new borrowing to address spatial needs. The second would authorize $8.8 million in new borrowing to upgrade athletic facilities.

The Riverhead school district will air its expansion plans at three additional community meetings before the Feb. 25 bond vote.
