Phillips Avenue Principal Debra Rodgers reflects on 12 years at the helm of the Riverside elementary school. The veteran educator is retiring this month.

Gershow Recycling donated $1,000 to the Phillips Avenue Elementary School food pantry, which has tripled the amount of people served since it started in late January.

The pantry is a joint effort of the school and the Island Harvest food bank, serving a student population where more than 80 percent of the children are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch under federal guidelines.
